Bamboo, which is widely distributed in the Asian region, has not only found extensive use in its traditional applications, but has also been utilized in the making of secondary workpieces by going through various processing methods. Among bamboo's processed products, Bambusae Caulis in Liquamen (BCL) is used as a raw material for medicine and food, and the review of safety and validity of these applications is still ongoing. In this context, the present research aimed to study the safety and effectiveness of the in vitro level of BCL. The production quantity of hyaluronic acid (HA) using ELISA kit was checked, and the expression rate for HAS2 gene involved in HA synthesis of cells was measured to check the moisturizing effect on keratinocyte. HA measurements using ELISA kits showed an 83% increase of HA production rate compared to the retinoic acid which is used as a positive control, and the density analysis using image J showed a 107% rate of expression compared to the positive control for HAS2 gene expression. Further clinical studies on the safety and effectiveness of skin are expected to provide a scientific basis for the use of BCL.
