Effective use of Barbatiman (Stryphnodendron barbatiman) in the healing process of lesions: a literature review

2016
There is a high prevalence of lesions in patients treated in hospitals, which is taking high expenses for public health, decreased quality of life of individuals and families, creating a major public health problem. The Barbatiman extract is traditionally used in wound healing in animals at first; the layer is rich in tannins that are active in wound healing, almost unknown by nurses. Synthesize scientific knowledge about the effectiveness of Barbatiman (Stryphnodendron barbatiman) in the process of wound healing. The study method was the survey literature review, along with journals indexed in national and international databases (LILACS, MEDLINE, SciELO,  Cochrane Library and PubMed). The use of Barbatiman was effective in the healing process in almost all the articles found; each article presents the use of the extract at different concentrations, requiring further studies that establish the concentration and optimal presentation of the product.
