Synthesis, spectral correlations and antimicrobial activities of substituted 4-(( E )-2-benzylidenehydrazinyl)benzonitriles

2016
A series of ten substituted hydrazones have been synthesized in good yield by condensation of 4-cyanophenyl hydrazine with various substituted benzaldehydes in the presence of acetic acid. The observed UV-Vis, IR and NMR spectral data of the products have been correlated with Hammett substituent constants and Swain-Lupton’s F and R parameters using single and multi-linear regression analysis. From the results of statistical analysis the effects of substituents on the spectral data have been discussed. The antimicrobial activities of all the synthesized hydrazones have been studied using Bauer-Kirby method.
