EVALUATION OF THE REACTION OF SILICA IN EXPANDED CLAY AGGREGATES (KERAMSITE) /IN RUSSIAN/

THE CHEMICAL METHOD USED TO SHOW THE CORROSIVE INTERACTION (INSIDE THE CONCRETE) OF ALKALIS IN AGGREGATE CEMENT AND SILICA IS DESCRIBED. THE METHOD IS BASED ON THE DETERMINATION OF MORTAR SILICIC ACID CONTENT AND ON THE MODIFICATION OF MORTAR ALKALINITY UNDER THE EFFECT OF SODIUM HYDROXIDE ON THE AGGREGATE. THIS METHOD IS SIMILAR TO THAT RECOMMENDED IN U.S. SPECIFICATION S-289-52T. RESULTS SHOW THAT EXPANDED CLAY AGGREGATES (KERAMSITE) ARE NOT REACTIVE. /LCPC/RRL/
