In current Western societies, discussions on religious and cultural customs and beliefs have become daily news. The most glaring examples are debates on radicalisation and jihad as the number of citizens travelling to Syria to join so-called Islamic State (IS), even at a very young age, is increasing. The relation with Islamic fundamentalism is undeniable. Yet, the threats of terrorism are not the only cases where religious or cultural aspects come to the fore.
