Hemodialysis in the Elderly

Most nephrologists believe that hemodialysis (HD) management in elder uremic patients may be adversely influenced by poor dialytic tolerance due to impaired cardiovascular conditions (1). This study has been carried out to evaluate HD tolerance and strategy in patients aging 65y or more. HD “young” patients (45y or less) were selected as control subjects since it is reasonable to expect good cardiovascular conditions and HD tolerance below this age limit.
