Analysis and Design of a Novel Dual-Stator DSEM for Fault-Tolerant Operation Under Loss of Excitation

In this paper, a novel dual-stator doubly salient electromagnetic motor (DSEM) is designed and analyzed for fault-tolerant operation under loss of excitation. The structure of double stator is adopted. Referring to switched reluctance motor (SRM) and DSEM respectively, the inner and outer stator windings are designed. The rotor located between the two stators is cup-shaped. Under the condition of normal excitation and excitation fault, the output torques of the internal and external armature windings acting alone and jointly are analyzed, respectively. Then the two stators are exchanged and analyzed. The results show that the proposed dual-stator DSEM has a good torque output when the loss of excitation fault occurs, which verifies the correctness and effectiveness of the scheme.
