Synthesis of spiroacetals by palladium-catalyzed oxidative carbonylation of hydroxyenones

We report for the first time in this letter a convenient single-step synthesis of spiroacetals, with concomitant introduction of a functional group in the side chain, by intramolecular cyclisation of hydroxyenones encompassing ketone, hydroxy and olefinic functional groups, catalysed by palladium chloride/cupric chloride system
