A Carotid Body Tumour Associated with Coarctation of the Aorta

IntroductionCarotid body tumours arise from the chemoreceptorcells found at the carotid bifurcation. These paragan-gliomas are known to be associated with residence athigh altitude and may occur in genetically susceptibleindividuals. Experimental evidence also suggests anassociation between hypertension and carotid bodyhyperplasia.
