The present invention relates to a backlighting system for electro-optical transmissive modulator operating in direct vision This system comprises:. - one or more means (1) for generating the light for generating light rays, - one or more reflectors (2) to return the light rays in a first direction referred to as x, - a transmission means (3) of light positioned at the output of the reflector so as to convey the rays light in the x direction, one side of the medium of parallel transmission to the conveying direction of the light rays having a micro-prismatic structure (4) reflecting specularly the light rays and extracting the transmission means substantially in a second direction referred to as z perpendicular to the first direction, the light rays output by the transmission means being collimated in the zx plane, characterized in that comport e a second collimating means (6) to achieve collimation of output light rays at least in a yz-plane, y being a third direction perpendicular to the first and second directions.
