Minimally invasive treatment of intertrochanteric hip fractures with percutaneous compression plate in elderly patients: a systematic review.

2009
[Objective]A systematic review was conducted to assess the effectiveness and safety of mini-invasive osteosynthesis with percutaneous compression plate (PCCP) in the treatment of trochanteric hip fractures in elderly patients.[Method]Using PubMed,Cochrane Library,EMBASE,Science Direct,CNKI,CBM and CMAC,the author performed a literature search for all the studies published in the English and Chinese languages from January 2000 to March 2009,reporting elderly patients undergoing PCCP.The bibliographic sections of identified papers were manually searched to identify additional papers. The Revman4.2 provided by the Cochrane Collaboration was used for management and analysis.Meticulous data extraction and meta-analysis was performed according to a preset protocol.[Result]In 216 citations initially identified,7 eligible papers, which included a total of 839 patients followed up,met all the final criteria.Compared with DHS and GN,PCCP was associated with a lower mean number of transfused units(P0.05).[Conclusion]The study demonstrates an advantage of a lower mean number of transfused units with the use of PCCP.However, operative implant failure, wound infection, revision,DVT,respiratory complications, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular complications rate, independent walking and mortality are similar to conventional technology.
