Abstract The functional and architectural beauty of the harbours built on the Mediterranean coast by ancient seafaring people (e.g. Fenix, Greeks and Romans) is of unestimable value in innovative planning of tourist ports. An example of this can be seen in this report on the new marina in Manfredonia on the Adriatic coast (Italy).
