A reliability analysis of the reinforcement of a large opening in a pressure vessel

Abstract Experimental results of strain gauge measurements on a large opening in a full-scale vessel are analysed in this paper. In particular, the reliability analyses of using the area reinforcement method for reinforcing a large opening are presented. The fatigue life of the pressure vessel at the working temperature is evaluated by means of the local strain approach. The results provide a mechanical basis for designs and operations of pressure vessels with large openings.
