Computer investigations of a double focusing spectrometer and comporisons with experimental results

1968
Abstract A new approach is used for investigating the optical properties of magnetic fields in ironfree particle focusing devices. It has been applied to a double focusing current sheet spectrometer. The magnetic field over a grid is directly computed from the coils. Accurate numerical integration techniques have been successfully applied for the calculation of the focusing properties of the instrument. The calculations agree with the experimental results within the accuracy of the measurements. This type of calculation is therefore of great value in the design and optimization of ironfree focusing instruments.
