One-step green synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles using Opuntia humifusa fruit extract and their antibacterial activities

2021
Abstract Herein, we report novel one-step hydrothermal synthesis of a photocatalytically stable ZnO nanoparticle in the presence of Opuntia humifusa fruit extract as a natural surfactant for antimicrobial application. The Opuntia humifusa fruit extract played a most important role in the modification of structural, optical and electronic properties of the ZnO nanoparticle. Further, the ZnO nanocomposite showed better antimicrobial activity against Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP) declared harmful bacterial pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Proteus, Pseudomonas and Escherichia coli. From the observed results, it is suggested that green synthesised ZnO nanoparticle could be used effectively in various medical, industrial, agricultural and food safety applications. The present research is more useful for the scientific community and also can address future medical concerns.
