Expression of GM-CSF and IL-5 in nasal polyposis

OBJECTIVE To study the difference of GM-CSF and IL-5 expression in mono-nasal polyp and poly-nasal polyps.METHODS The expressions of GM-CSF and IL-5 in 30 samples of mono-nasal polyps,23 of poly-nasal polyps and 15 of inferior turbinate were detected using ELISA technique and SP immunohistochemical method.RESULTS The expression level of GM-CSF and IL-5 in poly-nasal polyps were much higher than that in mono-nasal polyps(P0.01).The expression level of GM-CSF and IL-5 in mono-nasal polyps were much higher than that in inferior turbinate(P0.01).CONCLUSION The high expression of GM-CSF and IL-5 may be related to the occurrence and recurrence of nasal polyps and they may play an important role in the pathogenesis of nasal polyps.
