Spectrophotometric Analysis of Fe~(2+) in Gold Plating Bath

The ferrous ion is a harmful impurity in gold plating bath. And the maximum tolerance level of ferrous ion and nickel ion is 250 mg/L. In this paper a methodwas given for determination of trace ferrous ion in gold plating bath by using 1,10 phenanthroline as color reagent. Buffer solution was used to maintain pH to 5. The transmittence was measured at 510 nm. This method was characterized byrapidity and simplicity. Other compositions in gold plating bath did not interfere the determination. The method is suitable for the application in situ.
