Impact of intervention treatment on body mass index in girls with idiopathic central precocious puberty

2016
Objective To study the impact of intervention treatment on body mass index(BMI) in girls with idiopathic central precocious puberty(ICPP). Methods One hundred and fifty-six cases girls with ICPP had a long-term follow-up study, and 106 out of the 156 girls were treated with gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogs(GnRHa) for (25.30±1.43)months.And their height, weight, and BMI were measured before treatment, at the end of the treatment and after reaching near adult height, which was compared with those in the untreated 50 girls(control group), and t test was used to analyze the differences between the 2 groups. Results (1)The age BMI standard deviation score(BMISDS) in the GnRHa treatment group before treatment, at the end of the treatment and after reaching near adult height remained in the normal range; among them, the age BMISDS before treatment was similar to that at the end of the treatment, and was slightly higher than that after reaching near adult height, but there was no significant difference(all P>0.05); in the control group, the age BMISDS before treatment was similar to that after reaching near adult height, compared with the treatment group the difference was not significant(all P>0.05). (2) In the GnRHa treatment group, the proportion of overweight before treatment, at the end of the treatment and after reaching near adult height, was 18.8%, 15.0%, 9.4%, and obesity was 8.4%, 6.6%, 4.7%, in the control group, the proportion of overweight before treatment and after reaching near adult height was 14.0%, 6.0%, and obesity was 8.0%, 4.0%, there was no significant difference between 2 groups and by tournament method before and after treatment(all P>0.05). (3) The age BMISDS in 2 groups showed a positive correlation between after reaching near adult height and before treatment(r=0.708, 0.671, all P<0.01). Conclusions GnRHa treatment has no effect on BMI, no obvious tendency to leading to obesity, and a few children with obesity are related to its initial BMI.
