Formación de fitobezoar en divertículo de Meckel

2004
The Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is the most frequent congenital malformation of the bowel, which is present in 2% of the population. Only a 4-6% of the persons with MD will present symptoms. The most common clinical presentations are gastrointestinal bleeding, intestinal obstruction and diverticulitis. Formation of phytobezoar within MD is exceptional, with few cases reported in the literature. We present a case of a 13 years old male with abdominal pain and vomits. With the suspicion of acute appendicitis we performed a laparotomy and we found a phytobezoar within big MD. Precipitating factors to formation of phytobezoars are the ingestion of food high in fiber and the existence of a hypoperistaltic intestinal area what makes easy impaction of bolus.
