In the socket, a first jack is connected with one end of the secondary coil of an AC transformer through the coil of an AC voltage time relay; a second jack is connected with the other end of the secondary coil of the AC transformer; a third jack is connected with one end of the primary coil of the AC transformer through the normally-open connector of the AC voltage time relay; a fourth jack is connected with the other end of the primary coil of the AC transformer; a fifth jack is connected with ground; and both ends of the primary coil of the AC transformer are connected with the live wire and the null line of an AC power supply, respectively. In the plug, a fifth plug is a grounding connector; a third plug is a live wire connector; a fourth plug is a null line connector; and the interior of a first plug is connected with a second plug through a wire. The arc extinguishing plug and socket may eliminate or greatly reduce an arc generated at an instant when the plug is inserted into the socket.
