Antimicrobial constituents from the twigs of Trigonostemon xyphophylloides

2013
Objective To study the chemical constituents of the ethanol extract from the twigs of Trigonostemon xyphophylloides. Methods silica gel, sephadex LH-20 colunm chromatography, and Semi-preparative HPLC were employed for the isolation and purification. The structures of compounds were elucidated by the physico-chemical properties and spectral analyses. Results 8 compounds were identified as follows:Δ8,22-ergostadien-3β-ol-11-one(1),mangdesisterol(2)6-Deoxyjacareubin(3),ergosterol peroxide(4),syringaresinol(5),episyringaresinol(6),β-daucosterol(7),and daucosterol(8).Conclusion Compound 1 was a new natural product.Compounds 2,3,4,6,and 8 were isolated from the genus Trigonostemon for the first time.Compound 5 was isolated from this plant for the first time.Compounds 1,2,and 6 showed inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus by paper disk diffusion method.
