PREVENTION OF RESPIRATORY FAILURE IN THE POSTOPERATIVE PERIOD IN THE PATIENTS OF THE FIRST YEAR OF LIFE

2013
Summary. A prospective study of two groups of children aged 2 to 8 months, operated on for congenital heart disease complicated by pulmonary hypertension, has been conducted. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effect of the method of respiratory support in the postoperative period in children under one year with pulmonary hypertension in cardiac surgery with extracorporeal circulation. The first group (n=28) consisted of patients who were carried out inhalation of oxygen through a face mask, after a planned extubation. In the second group (n=21) the patients were transferred to the planned noninvasive ventilation via nasal CPAP. In the most critical period of rehabilitation the respiratory support increases the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, by the creation of the use of nasal CPAP. In group 2, the frequency of diagnosti c ventilator-associated pneumonia is smaller and the necessity for repeated transfer to the artificial lung ventilation was absent , compared with a group 1, p
