Synthesis and structure verification of chlorinated 4-methoxyphenols, models of metabolites of chlorophenolic compounds

Abstract 4-Methoxyphenol and all of its possible chlorinated derivatives were synthesized by partial methylation of p -hydroquinone and chlorinated p -hydroquinones. The products were separated and purified by flash chromatography, and the purities and structures were confirmed by 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR and mass spectrometry. The procedures of the synthesis and the routine NMR and mass spectrometric data are presented and the most characteristic spectral features are discussed.
