2011
With the shift in the energy consumption pattern of various industrial sectors, Natural gas has emerged as a most demanding fuel in the recent years. Over the years Natural gas has emerged as a fuel of choice across the world due to its environmental friendly characteristics which help in meeting the stipulated automobile emission norms. When compared with Coal and Oil, Natural gas has a low carbon footprint due to its clean combustible features. Natural gas too has a cost advantage over Crude oil and fuels such as Naphtha and Commercial Liquefied petroleum gas. Demand for Natural gas is primarily driven by fertilizer and power sector which accounts for almost two third of the country's gas consumption. Gas based power plants are quicker to build and incur lesser initial capital expenditure and are better suited to meet peak power demand. The current paper is an effort to critically examine how Natural gas with its different forms is capturing the market of Liquid fuels and investigate the reasons to switch to Gas from Liquid fuels.
