Facility Modeling of West Utility Straight Tunnel Section

1994
The Project Management Organization (PMO) and the Conventional Construction Division (CCD) of the Superconducting Super Collider Laboratory (SSCL) used the computer as a tool to build a repository for both physical and attribute information, in graphical and textual forms, related to vital technical and conventional components of the West Utility Straight Section of the SSC main tunnel. CCD and the PMO realized the benefits of computer intelligent modeling during conceptual design of the technical component configurations in this tunnel section. Benefits included interference resolutions, time savings, visual problem solving, underground space conceptualization, redefinition of multiple “what-if” concept scenarios, and the preparation of design requirements.
