Il passaggio tra età del Bronzo e del Ferro nella Sibaritide interna : Dati primari da Monte San Nicola (Civita, CS)

2020
Ongoing excavations by the Groningen Institute of Archaeology (Netherlands) at the hilltop settlement site of Monte San Nicola (municipality of Civita, Cosenza province, Italy) are throwing new light on the transitional period of the Final Bronze Age – Early Iron Age in the Sibaritide. This article places the results of the 2018 and 2019 campaigns in the context of current settlement models, in particular the debate about the importance of contacts with the Aegean world, and argues that we must resist the temptation to blame Greek colonization for the disintegration of FBA indigenous societies in Southern Italy. The finds so far excavated, supported by several radiocarbon dates, form one of the first ‘pure’ FBA-EIA transitional assemblages, and thus contribute to fill a significant typo-chronological hiatus with wider implications for protohistoric archaeology in the region.
