: The prostate gland is notoriously difficult to accurately measure with the index finger1 , a size estimation using ultrasound is without doubt much more accurate and perhaps now essential in contemporary practice. With an expanding portfolio of treatment options for men with symptomatic BPH, coupled with an increasing number of relatively inexpensive portable ultrasound scanners now available in the marketplace, surely now more than ever the argument for the routine measurement of gland volumes in the outpatient setting is clear.
