Kinetics of jute pulping by soda-amine processes

2002
The kinetics of soda-amine pulping of jute was studied. The investigation showed three distinct phases of delignification for each of the processes. The delignification rate of the soda-EDA process was 132% higher than that of soda process and also 12.6% higher than the of the kraft process. On the other hand, the addition of MEA in soda liquor increases the rate by about 107%. The transition point between initial and bulk, and between bulk and residual phases shifted to lower lignin content with the addition of EDA or MEA in the soda liquor. The highest carbohydrate yield and kraft like lignin yield were obtained in the soda-MEA process, whereas lowest lignin yield is obtained in the soda-EDA process.
