Optical detection and ranging characteristics of objects of different dimensions

A basic list of physical quantities that characterize from common standpoints the properties of objects of different dimensions, such as point, line, plane, and volume, under the conditions of active optical detection and ranging, is evaluated. A comparison between different approaches to the quantitative description of the properties of targets of optical detection and ranging is carried out, using as an example null-dimensional (point) and three-dimensional objects.
