Admission Attitude and Insight in Patients with Mental Disorders

Objective To explore the relationship between admission attitude and insight in patients with mental disorders. Methods Admission attitude and insight in 158 patients with schizophrenia, 81 with depression and 64 with mania were assessed, then their relationship was analyzed. Results Voluntary admission rates were 12.7% in patients with schizophrenia, 32.1% in depression and 10.9% in mania, involuntary admission rates were 65.1%, 53.1% and 51.6%, compulsory admission rates were 22.2%, 14.8% and 37.5%, rating scores for insight were 2.17±1.82,7.43±1.80 and 2.62±2.22, respectively. There was a significantly negative correlation between admission attitude and insight in all 3 types of patients, with the coefficient being 0.89、0.70 and 0.91(P0.01) respectively.Conclusion When rating scores for insight was better, admission attitude was better. Insight is the main factor that influences admission attitude in patients with mental disorders.
