Reconstructing Reading Vogues in the Old South: Borrowings from the Charleston Library Society, 1811–1817

In his 1960 study of the Bristol Library in the late eighteenth century, Paul Kaufman emphasized how nebulous and undeveloped the description of reading vogues remained, and called attention to the question of sources:
