Tracheal obstruction caused by blood clots -- a novel method for removal

We describe one fatal and two life-threatening cases of airway obstruction in patients requiring ventilatory support in the intensive care unit. This obstruction, which was secondary to endobronchial haemorrhage and clot formation, was relieved using a novel, simple technique involving suction tubing. We recommend that such a method be employed in situations of severe obstruction, when other techniques have failed.
