detected comparable levels of IFN-γ secretion, indicative of a defective antigen presentation. Indeed, analysis of antigen presenting cells showed lower expression levels of co-stimulatory molecules, like CD80 and CD86. Although diet changes modified the intestinal microbiota composition, the outgrowth of a specific bacterium was noted by 16s rRNA sequencing as well as culturing techniques. Work to identify the mechanisms on how the specific gut bacterium can shape the immune response is underway. In summary, these findings demonstrate that dietary metabolism by specific gut bacteria can have a profound impact on CNS-specific autoimmunity.
