Ultra-wide band frequency selective surface filter designed for Ku- and K- band applications

2013
In this paper we investigate a multilayer frequency selective surface (FSS) for Ku and K-band applications. This three layer FSS consists of different shape metallizations in the different layers: namely circular patches in the top and bottom layers and of two square loop elements in the middle layer. Evaluation of this FSS with a radial patches and square loops show a significantly large pass bandwidth of 24.4 GHz. The low profile design provides flexibility for mounting on the surface for various applications. Simulations show a 3dB bandpass response from 5.8GHz to 30.2GHz. The FSS yields a low loss of around 0.2 dB in the passband.
