Application of Chinese medicine on springs acupuncture points for pediatric fever

Objective To observe the clinical effects of external application of traditional Chinese medicine on springs acupuncture points for pediatric fever.Methods From July 2009 to December 2010,198 cases of outpatient or ward patients in our hospital with acute upper respiratory infection were randomly divided into the therapeutic group(102 cases)and the control group(96 cases).The therapeutic group was treated with springs acupuncture points external application of traditional Chinese medicine,while the control group was given alcohol sponge bath.The total effective rates in the two groups in 60 min,90 min and 120 min posttreatment were tested with x2 tests.After the treatment,nurses' operating time for reducing fever and the normal temperature duration were also evaluated critically.Results No statistical difference of the total effective rates were found between the therapeutic group(41.2%)and the control group(35.4%),and x2 =0.764,P >0.05 in 60 min post-treatment.While after 90 min andl20 min,the effective rates between the therapeutic group (62.8% and 77.5%)and control group(44.8% and 38.5%)was significant(x2 =6.805,31.000; P <0.05 or P<0.01).Meanwhile,nurses' operating time were shorten than use alcohol sponge bath(t =91.41,P < 0.01).Conclusions For pediatric febrile patients,external application of traditional Chinese medicine on springs acupuncture points is an easy and safe treatment,and it can get a durative antipyretic action without any adverse effects.
