IDAHO'S ROAD TO CVISN LEVEL 1 DEPLOYMENT
2000
Commercial Vehicle Information Systems and Networks (CVISN) has been created to improve highway safety, increase the efficiency of CVO administration by state governments and the federal government, and to enhance the economic competitiveness of safe and legal motor carriers. The main thrust of this program is to integrate existing CVO computer information systems into a single seamless system. This "new" interconnected system will provide access to safety and credentials data in a timely manner at critical locations. Some of these locations include the motor carrier's place of business, fixed ports of entry, mobile inspection facilities, and state agency CVO administration offices. In addition to integrating existing data and providing data access, CVISN also encompasses elements of electronic commerce. In the future, as states like Idaho implement their CVISN programs, registrations, permits, and fee payments will be accomplished electronically by leveraging the power of the Internet.
