Arrangement for data transmission

1987
A host apparatus 22 collects via a radio link the physical or chemical quantities of articles, which have been measured by a plurality of measuring devices, for example, vernier calipers 20. Each caliper 20 has a control unit (38 Figs 3A, 3B and 4) in which has a dip-switch (60) is operated to set the ID number of the device (20) into a RAM 70. Pressing a transmission button (56) of the device (20) causes a CPU (64) to edit a digital value supplied from a A/D converter (80) which corresponds to the measured value and the ID number stored in the RAM (70), thereby forming a serial-data message (88). This message (88) is transmitted by a transmitter (72), in the form of a radio message. The host apparatus (22) has a receiver (26) and a host computer (34). The receiver (26) receives the serial-data messages (88) transmitted from the measuring devices (20). The host computer (34) collects the values measured by the devices (20) and contained in the serial-data messages (88), in accordance with the ID numbers also contained in the serial-data messages (88).
