Effects of enteral nutrition on intestinal permeability of ulcerative colitis rats induced by DSS

2010
Objective To evaluate the effect of enteral nutrition on intestinal permeability of ulcerative colitis rats. Methods Forty wistar rats were divided into four groups ( control group,DSS group, methylprednisolone group and Gln group) . Rats in DSS group, methylprednisolone group and Gln group were fed with 5% DSS into the drinking water for seven days, rats in control group just drank distilled solution. The urine samples of the rats in different groups were collected respectively after test solution administrated and the rat intestinal permeability was analyzed by HPLC. Results Compared with control group, the excretion rate of lactulose in urine in DSS group significantly increased ( P 0. 01) , but the excretion rate of mannitol significantly decreased ( P 0. 01) ,and the excretion ratio of lactulose and mannitol in urine in DSS group significantly increased ( P 0. 01) . Compared with DSS group, the excretion rate of lactulose in urine decreased, but the excretion rate of mannitol increased, and the excretion ratio of lactulose and mannitol in urine decreased in methylprednisolone group and Gln group ( P 0. 01) . There was no significant difference on the excretion ratio of lactulose and mannitol in urine between methylprednisolone group and Gln group ( P 0. 05) . Conclusion The intestinal permeability of ulcerative colitis increased, but the enteral nutrition could decrease intestinal permeability of ulcerative colitis.
