THE ROLE OF RELIGION IN EUROPEAN INTEGRATIONS – A CASE OF SERBIA

The starting point of this paper is an analysis of democratic social system, religion and state whichare a basic postulate for the integration and formation of political will and culture for placing the Republic ofSerbia into the European Union family. The fact that the European Union (EU) was formed in a Roman-Catholic and Protestant establishment could be its determinative characteristic, in particular taking intoconsideration Max Weber’s stances proclaimed in his work Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism.However, taking into consideration as the starting point also the fact that Serbia has neither tradition of thecapitalist system, nor the spirit of Protestantism as its source for that matter, such arguments do belong to adiscourse of historical and geopolitical analysis. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to analyse the role ofreligion in the European integrations in case of the Republic of Serbia.
