Effect of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor on Peritumoral Edema of Meningioma

2007
[Objective]To explore whether extent of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression in meningioma associates with peritumoral edema of meningioma (MPE).[Methods]All meningioma tissue samples were obtained from patients of RenJin Hospital. Expression of VEGF was tested by immunohistochemical method and computer image analysis. MPE was measured by MR/CT within three months before the operation, and indicated by edema index (EI). VEGF and MPE were analyzed.[Results]There was statistically significant correlation between expression of VEGF and MPE.[Conclusion]VEGF plays an important role in the formation of MPE.
