Diagnosis and treatment of avian bacterial disease

2001
Bacterial diseases are common in avian medicine. Some bacteria are pathogenic to birds while many bacterial isolates from live birds are normal flora or opportunists. Opportunists can cause disease when host conditions permit. Treatment of opportunistic bacterial infections is necessary when the avian host is threatened with disease. Proper therapy relies on identifying the type of bacteria and preferably drug sensitivity testing.
