Infrarotspektroskopische untersuchungen zur wasserstoffbrükenbindung bei pyridin-alkohol-gemischen

1964
Abstract The wave numbers and intensities of the OH-stretching vibration band near to 3 μ of methyl alcohol, n -, s - and t -butyl alcohol, amyl alcohol, n -nonyl alcohol, benzyl alcohol, and phenol in carbon tetrachloride solution have been investigated. Especially the behaviour of the band of monomeric alcohol and of the band of the alcohol-pyridine solvat complex has been of great interest. According to the method of Benesi and Hildebrand the integrated molar extinction coefficient of the OH-bands of the solvat complexes, the equilibrium constant, and the free reaction enthalpy have been determined. Hydrogen bond is reinforced with increasing acidity of alcohols. Besides that, the results seem to promise that, in case of mixtures in discussion, the charge-transfer structure is of relatively high amount.
