Electrochemical behavior of melatonin. a cyclic - voltammetric study

2002
Melatonin (MT), a pineal secretory product, is an important and specific scavenger of highly toxic oxygen free radicals. An electrochemical technique - cyclic voltammetry (CV) - was used to study the electrochemical behavior of melatonin in vivo. The results suggest an electrochemical reduction of MT that generates an anion-radical. Kinetic parameters of the system were calculated. Electronic transfer is a process controlled by diffusion.
