DURABILITY AND RECOGNITION EVALUATION OF FLUORESCENT ORANGE SIGNS

1999
Transportation agencies around the United States have been using fluorescent orange sheeting in various temporary traffic control applications, and its use appears to be growing. However, other agencies have not adopted the use of fluorescent orange signs in temporary traffic control applications. In part, the limited use of these products is due to concerns over the durability of fluorescent orange signs. This research was conducted to address some of the key questions associated with the potential use of fluorescent orange signs. One of the key issues of the research was an evaluation of the durability of fluorescent orange sign products. The research also evaluated whether the use of fluorescent orange increased driver recognition of the orange color associated with road work.
