Some relationships of runoff to rainfall

1934
The writer submits some interesting relationships between runoff and rainfall that have come to attention in the course of studies pertaining to water-supply for the Hartford (Connecticut) Metropolitan District. These as well seem generally applicable to similar phenomena in southern New England and perhaps in some other portions of the country. No claim is made that the correlations here presented otter a solution or even material advancement toward the solution of that complex problem—the relation of rainfall to runoff—which has and must ever present so many varying phases as almost to defy the framing of a formula exact for even local application.
