Innovative Technology for a Flawless Rolling Slab Casting Process

The article describes some aspects of the innovative MHD technology LHMS jointly developed by Siberian federal university and UniMet LLC, that allows flawless casting of large billets and slabs made of multi-component aluminum alloys which is very important for the aerospace and automotive industries. The technology based on full control of the flows in the liquid sump by means of multi-phase electromagnetic field. The technology showed perfect results during casting of slabs made of aluminum alloys series AA 7xxx, 2xxx, 5xxx.
