Total reaction cross section of α-particles on carbon between 15.8 and 20.1 MeV

Abstract A beam attenuation technique has been used to measure the total reaction cross section of α-particles with carbon between 15.8 and 20.1 MeV. The results show a significant dip near the previously observed resonance in the elastic scattering at 18.5 MeV. An l -dependent optical model is used to analyze the data; the rotator model is applicable to the 18.5 MeV resonance.
