Generalized Construction Method and Phase-Disposition PWM for SiC & Si Hybrid Multilevel Active-Neutral-Point-Clamped Converter

2020
The multilevel active-neutral-point-clamped (ANPC) topology with more control freedom has been widely used in medium-voltage and high-power areas. The SiC MOSFET and Si device hybrid ANPC converter with a relatively low price can further increase power density and efficiency. In this paper, a generalized construction method for hybrid multilevel ANPC converter is proposed, which includes the definition of basic cells, the criteria that enable the hybrid structure and special steps that generate the hybrid topologies. Based on it, a series of hybrid ANPC converters are derived. In addition, the generalized modulation strategy for them is illustrated. The validity of the derived hybrid topologies and modulation scheme is confirmed by simulations and experiments.
