ALCYONACEA (OCTOCORALLIA) FROM THE RED SEA, WITH A DISCUSSION OF A NEW SINULARIA SPECIES FROM CEYLON

2013
ABSTRACT Three new species of octocorals (Coelenterata) are described from the Gulf of Elat (= Gulf of 'Aqaba) and the Gulf of Suez: Nephthea acuticonica n.sp., Heteroxenia coheni n.sp., and Xenia grasshoffi n.sp. The investigation of type specimens of Sinularia quereiformis (Pratt, 1903) and of specimens collected near Ceylon and identified as Sclerophytum querciforme (= Sinularia querciformis) by Pratt, 1905, resulted in the establishment of a new species, Sinularia prattae n.sp. In addition, ten previously described species are discussed.
