Application of quantum dots in electronics

Abstract Special characteristics of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) have opened up completely new possibilities for thin-film electronics and optoelectronic of the future. The field-effect transistors with QDs have been originally used to investigate carrier mobility in closely packed QD thin films, and the working layer has experienced a revolution in efficiency (> 30 cm2 V− 1 s− 1) because of an appropriate range of surface ligands and improvement in the chemical functionalities of QD films. Here, we have focused on these improvements and the ongoing work that can soon lead to electronic components of commercial status.
